The 2005 Breeding Season is over!  I have survived!
Here are some stats on this season:
16 females were bred and all laid eggs.
2 proven females had all slugs or non hatching eggs due to first time males.
3 females double clutched (32 eggs) from one breeding session.
326 total eggs layed, 240 were fertile (73.6%).
Of the 86 infertile eggs, 31 were from the 32 double clutched eggs.
Of 240 fertile eggs, 208 hatched (86.7%).
Average breeding to egg laying time was 44.1 days.
Average time from prelay shed to actual laying of eggs was 8.7 days.
Average egg laying to hatching time (incubated at approx. 80 degrees F.) 67.7 days.
Average time from first pip to last hatchling leaving the egg was 3.79 days.
Allowing from some error in my popping skills, there were 82 males and 124 females hatched.
Only two snakes had to be put down due to sever kinking at hatch.  No other kinks were noticed in other hatchlings.

These are the lucky males used for my breeding projects.  You can click on them to scroll down to the females they were paired with.

Egg count is at 239 of 294 (81.3%) first clutch eggs.
Barring any double clutches from females, all my females have finished laying their eggs.

Egg hatching is currently at 193/223 (30 eggs have not hatched).

All clutches have hatched (Last one is currently pipping - 8/15)!  At an average of 80 degrees, I averaged 67.7 days from laying to hatching this season.

2 Double clutches were laid so far, 1 of 21 (5%) were fertile.

This Snow male is my 'stud' male.  He has bred everything he's ever been paired with, and has been very fertile.  He is possibly het for Hypo, so I have done a test breeding with him to find out for sure.

002AneryEggs This pair successfully bred on 2/15.  Expecting AneryA and Snow hatchlings.

Shed on Sunday, 4/3.  She looks huge!  Hoping for eggs by Sunday.

She didn't disappoint!  Layed her eggs on Monday, 4/11.  29 eggs total with only 1 slug.  I was impressed to say the least!  The eggs are dimpling up today (6/14), so I expect some little black and white noses within the week.

Eggs started pipping on Thursday, June 16th!  There's a few that are fungus covered, but I've had snakes hatch out of them before, so we'll see what happens.  Well 24 eggs hatched so far.  1 good egg got bad shortly after everyone started hatching and went downhill quick.  There's one egg left that still looks good, but just hasn't pipped or hatched yet (as of 6/26).  Not sure what's going on with that one, and I may 'dig' into it soon to find out what the story is.

This pair successfully bred on 2/28.  This female has great yellow, and the male possibly has HypoA as either a het or homo trait.  The male will be a 4th time breeder, the female a 2nd time breeder.  Should produce all Snow hatchlings.

Just gave her an egg lay box today (4/5) as she was starting to go into blue phase.
She just shed on 4/12, and is hanging out in the laying box.

Well, I think she was a bit embarassed, she only layed 24 eggs (Wednesday, 4/20).  Last year she was only one behind the Anery above with 18, and was hoping to match or beat her this season.  I assured her that 24 eggs was just fine, and that her job is done!

Eggs started hatching here too.  All snows will be coming from this clutch unless there's a huge surprise, but I doubt it.

This pair successfully bred on 3/11.  The female was not brumated.  This female is a daughter to the male who possibly has HypoA as either a het or homo trait.  As a daughter, this is my best chance right now to test for the Hypo trait.  Expecting Normals, Amels, Anerys, and Snow hatchlings.  This female has now been sold, and will be going to a new home after she lays her eggs and is back up to feeding.

She refused her meal on Friday last, so am wondering if she's going to go into blue phase soon . . . ?
She was definitely in blue and already shed on Monday, 4/11.

This girl did NOT look as though she was carrying eggs at all.  The only thing that kept me hopeful was the fact that she continued to refuse food.  She finally laid her eggs today, so hopefully there's a slim chance we can she if there's any Hypo mixed into the genetics since she was bred back to dad.  4/22 (Friday), 15 good eggs!

Eggs started hatching yesterday, Saturday (6/25).  Already have 4 snow heads poking out and one amel.  There's an anery or normal that is not yet poking his head out, but he's cut open his egg.  Not seeing any Hypo noses yet, but not everyone's ready to come out yet.  No hypo's, but 11 of the 15 eggs hatched.

This female has entered blue phase as well . . . waiting for her shed.
She has shed on 4/16 (Saturday).

Well sisterly competition must be on!  This young lady, sister (and daughter to the male) to the normal het snow above laid her eggs today, 4/23 (Saturday), another 15 good eggs!

Eggs started pipping on Monday, 6/27.  Just one normal nose sticking out, so no pics yet.

001PhantomEggs    001PhantomHatch    001PhantomHatch2 This female bred with 03-006-SN Snow  on 3/21, but I don't think it was successful, and quite honestly I wasn't confident of the breeding itself.  She ate last week after shedding what I thought was a prelay shed and proceeded to eat a full size mouse this past Friday, the day she should have been laying eggs.  The female was not brumated last season, and will not be brumated this season in order to be sure she gains enough weight.  The female double clutched eggs, off of only 1 breeding, last season, and had a hard time putting weight back on until recently.  This male will is my stud breeder, and has never failed me yet, so I'm hoping this breeding match up will confirm if he's either homo or het for Hypo since it popped up in my collection last season from an offspring of this male and another female not in my collection.  She's a 2nd time breeder, so am expecting good things here now.  Expecting Normals and Anerys, but hoping for Hypo's and Ghosts.

Bred this girl to this male on Saturday, 4/23.  Starting to go 'blue' today, 5/23.  Shed on 5/27.  This is the last female I am waiting on for laying her eggs!  She finally laid her eggs on Thursday, June 9th.  She is the last female to lay her eggs so far barring any double clutchers.  She laid 20 eggs, 1 of them was a definite slug, but I put another questionable one in the incubator just in case.

This clutch began hatching today, Monday 8/15.  It looks as though I have all Ghosts and Anery's from this clutch!!  That can only mean two things . . . the Snow male is het for Hypo as I expected AND the Phantom is actually homo Anery as well, who'd a thunk it!?

003NormalEggs  003NormalHatch  003NormalHatch2 This pair successfully bred on 2/24.  This female came from the same pet store as the male, and was actually purchased from the wholesaler at the same time.  Suspect they may be clutch mates, but obviously not for certain.  This female has great color, and if they are clutchmates, the possible hets could produce some great looking hatchlings.  Breeding this combination to test for any amel/anery hets in the female.  Both were brumated.  The male will be a 2nd time breeder, the female a 1st time breeder.  Expecting Normals as hatchlings, but could get anything.

Shed on Sunday, 4/3.  Doesn't seem overly large, but I can (I think) feel a few eggs at least.  Am hoping she'll lay by Sunday.  Boy, another surprise, not overly large, but for a first timer, she laid 18 fertile eggs with no slugs!  Eggs were laid on Saturday, 4/9.  Two pipping little noses today (6/14), both normal, so will have some of my first hatchlings of 2005 within the next few days!  Had two little Amel noses poking out today (6/15), so she is het for Amel!  Hoping to see some Hypo noses or Anery/Snow noses too.  So far all normals and amels, still some eggs to start pipping, but I'm guess she's just going to be het for Amel.  (6/16)  All the eggs have hatched, so 100%, and as soon as everyone sheds they'll be getting their first meal soon.

This pair successfully bred on 3/2.  This female is from SerpenCo, and while purchased as an Okeetee, doesn't have the thick banding you'd expect in the look.  I have a suspicion there may be het sunkissed hypo in the female.  Breeding this combination to test for any amel/anery hets in the female.  Both were brumated.  The male will be a 2nd time breeder, the female a 1st time breeder.  Expecting Normals as hatchlings, but could get anything.

Shed on March 30th, but doesn't in the least look as though she has eggs.  Ate a mouse on Friday with no problems, and is crusing around the cage as if nothing's happening.  On a whim I bred her again to this male, and they hooked up (4/5) . . . I haven't had this experience before, but would assume that a female carrying eggs is not going to allow herself to be bred!

This girl shed last Saturday (5/14).  Started laying eggs on Monday, 5/23 with four so far.  Might be having problems or just a slow layer, will check on her tomorrow and take steps from there.  This girl stopped laying eggs.  I was worried about her being egg bound, but they just hadn't come out.  The next egg is partially out, but seems to be surrounded with internal tissues.  I aspirated this egg and removed it carefully, placed her on newspaper instead of aspen.  On Tuesday, May 31st, she prolapsed again, but there was also blood enough to worry me.  I gently forced the remaining eggs out being careful of the ovary (?). . . 19! . . . they came out surprisingly easy, but I think she is so drained and hurting that she was unable to lay them herself.  I will keep her on newspaper until she's eating and no blood.  I may have to make a vet visit if there's blood.  (June 5th) There's been no more blood after helping her lay her eggs.  6 were definitely slugs/shot, but there were 13 that were questionable.  They are in the incubator and will see what happens.  Mom seems fine for the time being.  The 13 that were questionable were definitely slugs as they are 100% cotton fungus balls.

3 of the 4 eggs hatched on August 2nd.  Babies were relativly smaller, all normals, but all 3 also ate their first meals after shed!

This pair successfully bred on 3/11.  These two produced my first surprise HypoA's last season, and would like to see if I can get some ghosts from them sometime.  Both were brumated.  Both will be 2nd time breeders.  Could get Normals, Amels, AneryA's, Snows, HypoA's, and/or Ghosts as hatchlings.

Looking bigger and bigger every day, but not ready for blue phase yet . . . As of today, 4/13, she still hasn't started blue phase . . . Got her lay box today, 4/22 (Friday).

Well, she shed on 4/30, but didn't lay her eggs until today.  (5/13, Friday)  She was super huge, so I was kind of disappointed that she 'only' laid 20 eggs (4 of which were slugs).  Disappointed only because I expected more because of how large she was, definitely NOT disappointed that she had 16 good eggs!

These eggs finally started hatching yesterday (Saturday, 7/23).  Definitely 1 Hypo poking its nose out and a possible ghost.  We'll see!

This young lady shed on Monday, 4/11.  Hoping she's fertile . . . and he's fertile . . . and can get some full lavs this season.

YES!  She laid 15 fertile eggs today!  (1 does seem on the edge of possibly being a slug, but was put in the incubator just in case.)  I was very excited to have these eggs layed as now I'm not so worried about the bloodred female's eggs coming any day now.

My first set of lavenders started pipping today!  I was really excited seeing this little nose poking out tonight, Sunday (6/26)!  Coming out of their eggs there are a few that are really orange in the neck area, exactly what I'm looking for!

This pair successfully bred on 3/1.  I am breeding these two to produce Normals het for Lavender Blood.   Both are brumated.  The male will be a 2nd time breeder, while the female will be a 1st time breeder.  Expecting Normals het lavender/bloodred.

This girl is looking huge!  She went into blue yesterday (4/4), and can't wait to see what happens!  Crossing my fingers as this is the main project I'm excited about.
She shed on Saturday, 4/9.  Spends some time in the lay box, and is also roaming the cage.  She's a first timer, so I think she's trying to figure things out yet!  Looking for eggs this weekend.

Well she was looking very large, but not for numbers of eggs (though 14 is respectable for a first timer), more for the size of the eggs themselves.  She layed 14 eggs on Tuesday, 4/19.  As long as they hatch, I'm on my way to my first real project!

They are a hatching!  Had my first 6 noses poking out of their eggs tonight (6/23).  These eggs are even bigger now, and I can't wait to see what they look like when they come out of their eggs.  As of today (Sunday, 6/26) all of the eggs have hatched but one.  There is one that hasn't pipped yet, so not sure when it's going to come out!

Looked to be getting darker today (4/17), and refused her meal on Friday.  Should be entering shed mode soon!  She got her lay box on Monday (4/18) as she is definitely in blue phase now.  Finally shed on Friday, 4/22.  Can't wait to see what the possibilities are with eggs.

She laid her eggs today, Friday (4/29), and there were 18 healthy fertile eggs waiting for me in the egg lay box.  Mom looks non the worse for wear as a first time breeder, and I was surprised and excited with the 18 eggs she laid.  It also bodes well for the male knowing that he's fertile, and the pairing with the lavender female below should be productive as well.

First little nose sticking out today (7/2)!!!  No pictures until I get some more poking out, but they are starting to hatch!  Took some pictures today, late Sunday night/Monday morning, some nice looking bloods hanging out in this clutch.

This pair may have bred on 3/14, but the female shed again on 3/21, so not certain about this one.  Am trying to get a second coupling from them.  Breeding these two to begin working on a Lavender/Bloodred project.    The male is brumated.  The female wasn't due to lack weight gain during the summer months.  I wanted to be sure she put on enough weight before breeding this season.   The male will be a 1st time breeder, while the female will be a 2nd time breeder.  Expecting Normals het for lavender/bloodred.

She's currently in blue phase and gave her a laying box on 4/11.

This girl shed on Saturday (4/16), and is another one that I am worried about with carrying eggs or not.

Well, I don't think she was ready to lay.  After 11 days of waiting, no eggs, no real 'nesting' behavior other than hanging out in the egg lay box, so decided to test my theory that she didn't have eggs, and sure enough, this boy went after her right away, and within 10 minutes they were hooked up.  Looks like my third female that I'll have to wait a bit longer on!  So far, that makes 2 non brumated females and 1 brumated female that I have had this experience with.

This girls shed on Sunday, 5/22, so should have my second batch of Normal het lavender/bloodred eggs soon!

She laid her eggs today, Monday, 5/30, and had 16 beautifully fertile eggs!  She also ate a hopper meal immediately.

Looks to be darkening up, and blue phase coming soon.  She shed on Saturday, 4/30.

This girl laid her eggs today (Saturday, 5/7), and had 17 fertile eggs for a first time breeder.  Lookin' good!

Eggs started pipping on Tuesday, July 12th, with one caramel/normal already out of the egg.  Looks to be a butter nose or two poking out, but will have to make guesses as to what they really are after I can get them all out and look at them.  Haven't hatched any out before, so I have to take my time with this clutch to see what I actually get!  Everybody's hatched out, and I got 4 Butters which was exciting.  I got one definite Caramel, but there's two Normals that are extremely borderline in my opinion, but there is the slightest hint of red/orange right at the neck so I'm going to list them as Normals.

Eyes were full bore cloudy today (4/17), so she got her egg laying box today.  Shed on Thursday, 4/21.

She actually laid eggs!  (4/30, Saturday)  I'm surprised as I wasn't positive that this pair bred, but they did.  The male was unbrumated, but I am excited about the possibilities in the hatchlings.  There were 12 eggs total, but 3 slugs, so I have 9 eggs in the incubator from her.

Eggs started pipping on July 2nd and finished up today, Sunday, July 10th.  All of the eggs hatched, and a couple of them are feisty!  Definitely got more Motley's than I expected, and also got 1 Caramel Motley, so I'm excited about that!

004AmelHatch This pair successfully bred on 2/18.  The female was brumated, but the male wasn't.  The female is a 2nd year breeder, the male a 1st year.  Expecting Normals het amel and stripe.  The male was sold this season.

Laid her eggs on Sunday, 4/3.  She laid 17 eggs which is exactly what she laid last year, . . . but while last year she only had 1 slug, this year there were 12!  I attribute it to the male who was unbrumated, and a first timer.  Either way, I have my first 5 eggs of the season now in the incubator!!

(5/19)  Two eggs from this clutch have gone bad.  They were fertile eggs, but fungus got them pretty bad.  Cleaned them off with Listerine a couple of times, but didn't work for nothing.  The other 3 eggs still look good, so should hopefully get a pair out of them.

Well, my joy this morning (6/16) was tempered by the fact that the lone hatchling (so far) from this pair was severely kinked about 1/3 of the way down it's back.  The head also appears to have a bit of 'doming' to it as well.  It ended up being an amel, which meant the male that I sold was het for Amel, but I cannot keep this hatchling with such a severe kink.  It wasn't due to high temps either, so there must be some other factor involved.  Opened up the other 2 eggs, and found one severely underdeveloped and nowhere near 'term', and the other was fertilized, but was solidified quite early on.

002CharcoalEggs This pair successfully bred on 3/11.  I haven't seen Charcoal stripes too often, and would be interested to see what happens a few years down the road.  The male wasn't brumated, but the female was.  The female will be a 2nd time breeder, while the male is a first timer .  Expecting Normals.  This female will be listed For Sale after laying her eggs and has weight back on.

This girl's in blue phase, but refuses to use it right now.  She's choosing to lay UNDER the lay box at the present time!  (4/12)

She shed on Friday, 4/15, and looks to be carrying a good amount of eggs.  We'll see what happens this coming weekend.

She has laid her eggs today, Saturday (4/23), and more 'evidence' that first time males that are not brumated are not very fertile!  She laid 19 total eggs which was great, but 12 of them were slugs!  :(  That's okay because I still have a chance with the 7 eggs to get a pair!

This girl decided to lay another slug the next day.  There haven't been any more since, so I think it was just an extra slug that took a bit longer to travel down the 'chute' so to speak.  Will definitely keep an eye on her, though it did raise her total egg count to 20 with 13 slugs.

This clutch is waaaay past due, and eggs are slowing dying, there is one egg that looks viable still, but the rest have either died or are in the process.  Will cut these guys open in the next couple of days just to see what's inside.  (7/13)  Eggs were cut open . . . all of them were dead in egg very early in the process, they just took this long to start turning bad.  No het for Charcoal Stripes for me this year.
