2011

(Updated 4/20/11)

We have a majority of our pairings completed and eggs are already coming with 4 clutches in the incubator so far.  We have a few females that still haven’t had their post-brumation shed yet, so we are waiting on them as well as several pairings that weren’t brumated.  The unbrumated pairings will be by luck and chance.  If they breed so be it, if not, no major loss either.  The females are well over 300 grams, but the males, who were also unbrumated, aren’t showing any interest at all.

——————————————————————————–

Below are the pairings that I’m planning for the 2011 season.  I know this will change.  It has every year due to females and/or males being unwilling to pair up, or I get “better” ideas, or following breeding and egg laying, the clutches just don’t hatch.  There are 16 planned clutches listed below, but I also have a few potential pairings from snakes that won’t be brumated.  Those tend to be hit or miss, so I’ll add them to the list after successful breeding attempts.  From the 16 planned clutches below, I realistically anticipate 10-14 being truly successful which is about what I shoot for each year.

Hopefully looking forward to another successful season of “just enough” snakes that will support this habit!

All pairings are Male x Female.

Clutch 2 – Bloodred het HY/LV (05-020-BR) x Normal het LV/BR (05-017-NO)

This pairing produced my first project snake with a gorgeous Lavender Bloodred.  I can’t no pair them up again this season.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  3/3
Eggs Laid:  4/14 – 17 eggs, 0 slugs (17 total)
First Pip:  6/13
Phenotypes Hatched:

Clutch 4 – Caramel Motley het AM (08-002-CaM) x Amel Motley (07-006-MM)

This pairing didn’t take last season either.  I attribute it to the first time male problems I tend to see, so I’ll pair them up again and hope for good things.  I’m looking to get Normal and Amel Motleys out of the matchup.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  3/3
Eggs Laid:  4/16 – 18 eggs, 0 slugs (18 total)
First Pip:  6/15
Phenotypes Hatched:

Clutch 5 – Normal het AM/CH/LV/ST (06-020-NO) x Normal het AM/CH/ST (06-021-NO)

This is a repeat breeding that produced some gorgeous Vanished Stripe snakes as well as a group of really weird patterned snakes.  Hoping to repeat those results again this season as I wait for those odd hatchlings to grow up!

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  3/4
Eggs Laid:  4/20 – 21 eggs, 3 slugs (24 total)
First Pip:  6/20
Phenotypes Hatched:

Clutch 6 – Normal het AM/CH/LV/ST (06-020-NO) x Stripe het CH/LV (08-003-ST)

This repeat pairing produced a gorgeous Vanished Charcoal Stripe last season along with surprising me with some Lavender Stripes.  We will see what this season brings!

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  3/9
Eggs Laid:  4/22 – 26 eggs, 0 slugs (26 total)
First Pip:  6/21
Phenotypes Hatched:

Clutch 7 – Sunkissed (07-001-SK) x Sunkissed (07-002-SK)

This pairing produced some gorgeous Sunkissed hatchlings last year.  Both adults are supposed to be possible het for Anery and Normal Motley.  Neither showed up last year, so I don’t think they are both het for matching genes.  I liked the results of the pairing last year so I’ll try it again.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  3/13
Eggs Laid:  4/23 – 21 eggs, 0 slugs (21 total)
First Pip:  6/21
Phenotypes Hatched:

Clutch 8 – Sunkissed (07-001-SK) x Anery Motley het AM (08-002-YM)

If this new pairing is successful, I will be able to test the male for both Anery and Motley which are possible hets.  Both adults had very successful seasons last year, so hopefully this pairing will work well.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  3/9
Eggs Laid:  4/24 – 17 eggs, 1 slugs (18 total)
First Pip:  6/23
Phenotypes Hatched:

Clutch 9 – Hypo Lavender Bloodred (08-001-HLB) x Hypo Bloodred (08-003-HB)

Another test breeding with this first time male.  The female didn’t take last season and is also possible het Lavender.  If successful, this pairing will, at the least, produce all Hypo Bloodreds, but also the chance for Hypo Lavender Bloodreds.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  3/9
Eggs Laid:  4/25 – 10 eggs, 9 slugs (19 total)
First Pip:
Phenotypes Hatched:

Clutch 10 – Ice (08-001-IG) x Hypo (08-003-LA)

This female was sold to me as a Lava.  I really don’t believe she is at all.  This pairing will prove it out one way or another.  If not Lava outright, she is possible het Lava and Anery, so the results will be exciting!

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  4/6
Eggs Laid:  4/27 – 21 eggs, 0 slugs (21 total)
First Pip:
Phenotypes Hatched:

Clutch 13 – Normal het CH/SK (09-030-NO) x Normal het CH/SK (09-033-NO)

This is another anticipated project.  I’ve put the pairs together several times since breeding in the collection began.  They finally hooked up.  My luck with unbrumated, first-time pairs is not the best, but if it hits this first time around, there’s a good chance (1 in 16) to hit a Charcoal Sunkissed!  That would be sweet.

Brumated:  NA
Bred:  4/26
Eggs Laid:
First Pip:

Hypo Lavender Bloodred (08-001-HLB) x Lavender Bloodred (08-001-LB)

This is a new male, who is unrelated to anything in my collection.  He is ready to pair up with ladies this season.  He will be brumated and hopefully all goes well as  I don’t like my success rate with first time males, both brumated and unbrumated.  I am looking forward to this pairing because the female is my first project result and is possibly het Hypo.  This pairing would not only produce Lavender Bloodreds but will test her for the Hypo trait.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  5/23
Eggs Laid:
First Pip:
Phenotypes Hatched:

Platinum het AM (07-001-PY) x Charcoal het AM (03-003-CH)

I want to get back to producing straight Charcoals and Blizzards as they are just gorgeous in their own right.  This new pairing will allow me to do that.  This female has had weird breeding season the past two years, so hopefully this year straightens back out.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  4/15
Eggs Laid:
First Pip:
Phenotypes Hatched:

Caramel het AM (05-001-CA) x Butter (05-003-BU)

Another great producer pair for me, I get gorgeous Caramel and Butter hatchlings that typically go to the pet stores.  Not only are the hatchlings gorgeous, but they always seem to be larger than “normal”.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  4/28
Eggs Laid:
First Pip:
Phenotypes Hatched:

——————————————————————————–

The following clutches did not produce eggs or any eggs laid expired during incubation.

Clutch 1 – Bloodred het HY (08-023-BR) x Bloodred het HY (08-024-BR)

This pairing didn’t work out last season either.  I got mostly slugs from the matchup.  I really want them to be a successful pairing as they both exhibit some white on their sides.  As siblings, I’d really like to pair them up and see if this pied-side-like appearance is reproducible.  Who knows.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  2/24
Eggs Laid:  4/13 – 9 eggs, 10 slugs (19 total)

Clutch 3 – Powder (09-001-PW) x Platinum het AM (07-002-PY)

I had originally planned to just pair up the Platinum male with this female again, but she just shed and on a whim I threw the up and coming Powder male in with her.  There was no hesitation from either snake and locked up almost immediately.  I should get more (50%) Powders out of this pairing now depending on how fertile both snakes are.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  2/21
Eggs Laid:  4/14 – 3 eggs, 16 slugs (19 total)

Clutch 11 – Caramel Motley het AM (08-002-CaM) x Butter Motley (08-001-BM)

This male was a willing and able breeder last season as a first timer, but none of his pairings took.  I’ll give this pair a shot again this season and hopefully produce some Caramel and Butter Motleys.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  3/9
Eggs Laid:  4/4/29 – 3 eggs, 16 slugs (19 total)

Clutch 12 – Bloodred het HY/LV (05-020-BR) x Bloodred (03-003-BR)

The girl in this pairing is my old-school Bloodred from Kathy Love.  Seeing some results from other’s who’ve purchased babies from this girl, I have suspicions that she may be het Hypo.  Last year’s pairing wasn’t successful, so I’m hoping this guy will do his job well as he’s done over the years.  I’d like to confirm that she is in fact het Hypo.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  NA – this female would not take a male this season.
Eggs Laid:  5/9 – 12 eggs, 11 slugs (23 total)

Normal het AM/AY/HY (02-002-NO) x Amel het AY/HY (02-005-AM)

This is my “bread and butter” pairing each season and also the oldest two snakes in my collection at 8 years apiece.  I get a rainbow of typical pet store flavors from this matchup.  The male is my old standby and always produces well.  He’s one of the first.  The female is the first snake I every hatched out and has proven to be  a great producer over the years.

Brumated:  11/07-01/16
Bred:  This female did not take to a male this season.
